incredible. i posted a response, though i guarantee no one will think it's one of us posting it.

ridiculous. i mean, i would be very pissed if i didn't get in after traveling, and certainly didn't intend for it to be "private" (my "guest list" was i told the door guy to "let my wife in") but some of these people need lives! one dude actually bitched that it was "false advertising". isn't that what 8th graders say? like, you're going to sue someone other than a tobacco company for "false advertising"?

super weird. people are super weird. and i'll tell you--i LIVE in brooklyn. 90% of my friends live in brooklyn. my favorite restaurants are in brooklyn. BUT THIS IS WHAT I HATE ABOUT BROOKLYN. it's barely new york when it comes to this stuff. brooklyn's like some half-assed little college town filled with babies that get their little feelings hurt. makes me nuts.

and "union pool" is reason enough to have a door policy. i'd rather drink with wall street guys.

anyway...

i wouldn't ding all of brooklyn.

it's mainly the parts of north brooklyn that are spitting distance from the williamsburg bridge. and some parts of south brooklyn.

It's very weird that New York, in some ways, has went from this monstrously vibrant, artistic, forward-thinking city/state that truly influenced the world musically and artistically (No Wave/Heroin Chic/Disco etc...)

Nowadays, though, you still have wonderous artists running throughout (not to mention that DFA label. their stuff's OK, but I prefer Ed Banger) but a truly convoluted feel, where it feels almost like NME indie/nu-rave have pushed through, creating bitchiness from the STUPIDEST, MOST ILL-INFORMED music "fans" on the planet!

A long story short, I'm moving my NY trip forward to this year, so I'll be expecting some damn good partying, James! At the very least, I'll be expecting some Sylvester to be spun, and your DAMN RIGHT I want some 12" action [why does that sound so perverse?]

1. SDV had a party on Wednesday at Santo's Party Den.

2. It was posted at various places, including Brooklyn Vegan, a blog of sorts.

3. Some people made it into the party

4. Other people had trouble getting into said venue due to bouncers and doormen claiming it was a "private party."

5. Those people then went to BV's site bitching and complaining about how they couldn't make it in and that the bouncers were dicks and that DFA were overrated and that drummers have a complex of sorts.

6. james comments at the BV post and finishes off with:
Quote:
but wow. some of you should maybe just stay in brooklyn. or safer--move back in with you parents, because life is clearly too rough for a lot of you.

The end.

Frankly, as a BV reader, most of the comments sound the way the comments on the SDV thread sound.

Can't please everyone all the time can you?
Someone's always going to bitch that you only had PBR at the bar instead of Milwaukee's Best

is that the general bv vibe? "how cheap is it?" or "how unpretentious is it?" my policy on pretentiousness: most people who hate it are incredibly pretentious--just that their pretentiousness looks like "genuineness"... like, they read a lot and "don't have a tv." or, they "don't care what they wear". etc. etc. i like gay stuff, and drag queens and glam rock. so, that sort of counts me out (though, to be honest, i read a lot).
