wow, nick... you've got some answers! noticing the latency issue... that must be if you're mixing in the box, i think--sending something out thru an outboard and then "back in" or something? i think the confusion is people not realizing the mixing etc, is done analog on the desk? maybe i'm wrong. over here we mult the source--one out to the recorder and one to the desk to monitor. if i have eq i like on the desk, i just send the recorded signal thru that same channel after recording it clean.
nerd. can you tell i'm avoiding singing? |

If you're checking "Production Query For Nick" you are definitely avoiding something.

yerr , James, that's about the bit size and depth of it . Us board-less ITB wonders have our latency trials and tribs in PT (sans HD's delay compensation). When I realised the fellas were using PT LE i thought to myself , " self, the ghost must put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us minch's ".
of course their pants are sewn to their frames by an elderly Brit ex-pat from Savile Row with white knuckles and a soft touch . (sorry to go all third person narrative on you in your own thread Nick)
K' now , lyric writing is to singing what caramel is to chocolate so hops to it and make them tunes Poppin' James.
Me want's to take Sound of Silver off tha' decks and replace it with somethin' sooo 2010. _________________ The media monkeys and their junkie junkies will invite you to their plastic pantomime; throw their invites away. |

since this is the production query thread, can you please tell us what kind of tools and ingredients you'll be using.
k thx |
copious amounts of manbutter for "frosting"
um
I'm experimenting with a recipe
I'll be using lots of Nutella
and not a lot of frosting, as I'll probably put frosting thunderbolts on the top in black and white.
also
i need cooking beats
maybe ill be rocking the next holy ghost EP

it's gonna be nice. Bob Weston (of, er, lots of stuff fame) did the mastering. He did the mastering for the "Simple Things" and "Bye Bye Bayou" 12"s which, for my money, are two of the best sounding records, um, maybe ever (speaking purely from a fidelity standpoint but, of course, both those songs just kinda rule in general).
So I think it's going to sound pretty sweet. It's going to be a full artwork sleeve for which our friend Harry McNally (who runs the great clothing company Peg Leg) took the photo and our friend Drew Hefron (who designed the OG HG! NY Knicks logo) did the design. You can see the front cover on our blog. It will have a limited run, but not SUPER limited and promo only like the "I Will Come Back" 12" so I think everyone who cares will be able to get a copy for sure.
It should be out by May 18th. Or thereabouts. But we personally will definitely have them for sale by the time the LCD/HG! party bus hits the road. |

Yo Nick ,
1) part A --what gear does Weston use ? A massive Passive ? L2 hardware ? Don't care , didn't ask ?
Just wondering, for client's such as you and James , what tools would he take out of his chest .
1) part B -- I'm so used to seeing his name attached to umpteenth chicago indie rock bands i was a bit surprised you all were using his services .
How did that come about ?
2) What did Chris Zane have on his 2 bus for your final mix ?
Did you and Alex geek the f*ck out on all that gear coming from your setup ? _________________ The media monkeys and their junkie junkies will invite you to their plastic pantomime; throw their invites away. |

yo,
i had a question about how you went about making the sequenced or arpeggiated parts in the "don't fear the reaper" remix. i don't really know too much about production in general, but definitely have little to no idea how a sequencer or arpeggiator works. (i kind of know what they do, just not really how to use them the way you did in that remix.)
then to achieve the changes in the sound are you using a filter or ????
hope this question makes sense. thanks so much. |
